Worthington Sinks Teeth Into 'Dracula' Role?
Earlier this year, Latino Review reported that Sam Worthington was the favourite to star in director Alex Proyas' Vlad the Impaler biopic, titled 'Dracula : Year Zero'.
Moviehole reports that at the Australian International Movie Convention on the Gold Coast yesterday, Mike Baard (director of Universal Pictures) announced that they're spearheading the project and that it will be lensed in Australia, with local actors and crew. It's believed Worthington is indeed one of those local actors onboard the film, although there's been no confirmation from the studio as yet.
Proyas confirmed to Moviehole recently that Year Zero will be “a medieval epic” rather than your average gory horror movie.
He adds:
“It’s actually a composite of [the Vlad the Impaler story], of the origins of the legend, and the Bram Stoker book. You could see it as a prequel to Bram Stoker’s novel, in some ways. All the cool bits out of Francis Coppola’s “Dracula”. You can see it that way as well.”
The project has been pencilled to start in early 2011.
