HAPPY 2007!

Hey all!

I guess by now you would have seen the kind of format of news that I will be reporting on in 2007.

I'm not sure whether I'll be online much over the next few days, so I just wanted to wish you all a very Happy New Year. For those who have had a crap year...all you can do is look forward to a better helping of luck...just like me.

News: Ledger and Watts remain friends after break-up!

Source: World Entertainment News Network

Following my own personal break-ups I can understand why it can sometimes be hard to remain friends with someone you once loved dearly. But it seems like I'm not the only one who thinks it can be possible to be friends with your ex. Take Naomi Watts and Heath Ledger for example...

The couple dated for two years (Two years? Wow...that's one hell of a long series of dates!) having met on the set of the movie Ned Kelly and their relationship ended in May 2004. The Ring star said:

"That was the first taste I had of interest in my romantic life, and it was certainly difficult. He had more experience at it than I did, and we would do our best just to hide away."

However Watts insisted that the media wasn't even interested in their break-up because they both remained friends, and she even has a friendship with Ledger's fiancee..Michelle Williams.

Watts added:

"There was no third party; there was no victim. We're on great terms - great friends, and I also have come to know Michelle a little bit."

I'm not saying this would work for everyone, but she is right that if there is no third party then it really is a little more easier to get over the trauma of a break-up. Anyway...Watts still looks gorgeous so attached or single...she will be very happy in the end.

News: Liv Tyler will never star in another epic film project!

Source: Bangshowbiz

I think most of my blog readers will know that the Lord of The Rings movie trilogy was one of the best yet from Peter Jackson. But now Liv Tyler has made it clear that she isn't prepared to commit to the amount of time she did for the acclaimed fantasy series. Her son Milo was born in December of 2004, and it is her son that has been the reason behind her choice.

She said:

"I'm definitely not going to shoot a huge 'Lord of the Rings'-type project again. Milo is still very young so I don't want to disrupt his little world too much until he starts school."

Liv recently revealed that she was close to giving up acting altogether, in order to become a full-time mother. She added:

"It was really a reflective period for me, and I was asking myself all these questions, like, 'Should I retire and move to the country and have lots of babies?' That year off helped me realise I love what I do."

Don't panic though, since she hasn't quite gone turned her back on Hollywood! Liv is currently filming new thriller The Strangers in South Carolina..in the heart of America's tobacco country.

In my opinion the actress does have talent, however I'm sure she won't be too missed if she decides to retreat to the countryside to begin to lead the life of a full time mum.

Hello strangers!

Wow...was my last post really that long ago? Over 4 months ago? Well..a lot's happened since then.

In that time I've had the most fun meeting new people from the OUT site, going to events...and enjoying time with a new partner. However...all recently all didn't go to plan, when things ended between my partner and I. Yes...it did feel like my world was going to end at the time, but then I had one last Ace to pull out from the deck of cards...and that was to have decent friends around me.
This entry in my blog isn't just about me returning to my usual ways of posting entertainment news, but to basically put my feelings down on here, and tell you how I got through what I thought was going to be the most difficult time of my life.

Maybe I've reached another growth point in my life where I've been able to successfully manage how long it takes me to get over a break up, but here are some points that I have implemented in my life...and who knows..it might help you..

  1. By all means, reflect on what you have lost! Just don't spend too much time doing it, because eventually it WILL drive you insane. Initially there will be the tears, then you will run through questions after questions to yourself as to what you did wrong, and end up blaming yourself. Then there will be the anger (this is when you begin to dig up everything that bothered you about them), and then after a while there will be clarity.

  2. Lean on your friends! This is a time when you find out who your true friends are. Those who literally will provide you a shoulder to cry on are the friends you can count on. Talk to them, listen to them, laugh with them.. That's right...don't feel guilty about laughing with them, even though you're feeling sad.. The best thing is to laugh as much as you can, and it's a true friend who will try to perk up your spirits. If you find yourself not having any friends, find a flat mate you get on with...or even your mum or sibling. They'll be there for you, so you're never totally alone.

  3. Run through ideas about how you're getting on, and even say the odd few out loud (when you're alone of course). Sometimes there can be so much going on in your head that you may find it hard to sift through all the negative questions, to get to the positive 'I'm moving on' thoughts. I definitely found that vocalising my thoughts out loud when I was alone helped me to get my head together, and after a couple of days..no longer was I thinking about how bad all this was, but I was now training myself to think of how the world still keeps spinning, and bills still need to be paid etc. The truth of the matter is..nothing stops because a break-up happens. If anything...the other person may already be content in getting on with their lives...and there's you..crying each night. It's at that point when you should be asking yourself...are they just as upset as you? Has their life stopped because they dumped you? To be honest..the majority of the time the answer is NO. So after going through what you have lost...think how you can now move forward. If you don't have friends on hand...then there's one thing you will need to do...and that's to start making some new friendships. Make a list of all the things you want to do, and give yourself a deadline. If some of those things involve making a change in your life then all the better, bacause a) it would make you feel good about yourself, and b) you'd be doing something positive about your life.

  4. Ask yourself..do you want them in your life at all? If it was you who was dumped, it is you makes the decision whether they're still in your life or not! This new life that you're going to create for yourself, do they fit in it? If not...you are under no obligation whatsoever to have them in it. If you dumped them, then it sounds like you've already made your choice..but there are those who genuinely want to have their ex in their lives, just on a friendship basis. This is fine...but ultimately it's not your choice to make. My advice here is if you're really not ready for friendship then don't say to the ex "Let's be friends."...because so many have heard it and this intention has never been followed through. I can see both sides of the coin here since I have a lot of experience in both roles...but it never ceases to amaze me to see the false promises people make to each other, believing that this will 'lessen the blow of a breakup'. The truth of the matter is that this will only make things worse, and rip apart any shred of friendship that could have been salvaged.

  5. Move on, and move up! I know..that makes me cringe when I hear it and say it. But there is an element of truth in it, but it's only effective when the person going through the breakup says it to themselves....not just once...but saying it over and over again. I've come to realise that while I did appreciate the company and cuddles etc the one thing I almost totally lost sight of was myself. I admit I did bend over backwards on a few occasions for my ex...but then no more than what one person would to another who they loved. Now is the time to think about you...and you alone. Their life will move on so now yours has to! Don't cling onto the fact that things 'might change and they'll come running back to you'...as believe me...there are other things that need your attention in your life right now. At the risk of chucking yet another cliché into the mill....there are others out there, and I've always believed that there's someone out there for everyone. That's been proved to me on a couple of occasions, so I have faith in it.

In the past few days I've done a lot of soul searching and found that there was really no point of pursuing someone who didn't want me, and therefore why lose the dignity that I have left to do that. This isn't the first time I've been dumped and I doubt it will ever be the last. That's no reason however to confine yourself into solitude and rid yourself of any chance in the future of embarking on another relationship. I guess I was lucky in a way to discover where it was that I went wrong, and so not only do I now have the change something in me...but ultimately I know not to make the same mistakes again. Those who think that a person can't change...I'd say bollocks to them. Granted you can't change something you haven't admitted to yourself, but for those with the strength to do so...you're the only person who can change that. If you can do that, and want to make relationships better, then you can change. The people who don't believe you can only hold you back in applying this change!

I for one believe that I can do a lot better in relationships. In my previous relationship what I have learned is to manage my stress levels more, especially when work contributes to it. I used to have the practice where I would leave my working life at work...and pick up my personal life on the other side of the swinging doors. While I admit I did lose sight of what once used to be a habit...I need to adopt it again.. I suffer from migraines, and was taking medication for this which lead to more frustration and anger as a side effect. The way to remedy this is to go on a different set of tablets so this will soon become better managed too. As you can see...with the time taken to think about what direction my life is going in..I can now focus on the positives to get my life back into action...and not to make the same mistakes in another relationship.

The thing to remember here is that I've come through all of this in my own time. No-one gave me a deadline or timescale as to when to have drawn my conclusions...I just did it when I was ready. I know you will be able too...when you're ready. I once thought a breakup was the end of my world, but then I remembered that the globe still keeps on spinning.

Apologies..

Hello all!

Firstly I want to apologies to the readers of my blog for not having updated it in a long while. I'm getting pretty crap at this.

Work has been chockablock...and feel drained by the time I get home. Today and for two more weeks...I'm officially the boss of my department! There's been a lot to contend with (work wise)...but have managed to see the light at the end of the tunnel! Non-work wise...I've been having extensive dental treatments to finally fix my teeth and have the smile I've always yearned for. It's amazing how something like that can do for your confidence...as I'm already starting to feel and see the difference. It's a costly job though...but worth it in the long run. The best thing is that finally I'm doing something for myself....and no-one else.

I was talking to a friend yesterday and he agreed that the only person who should really benefit from this treatment is me, and to hell what the rest of the world think.
So if you've been thinking about visiting the dentist after a long while...go and do it! Because the longer you leave it...the more severe the pain will be on your wallet...not necessarily your teeth!

So I'm almost back on track again...and should be posting a load more on here. I'm also thinking of going extra techie and am thinking of creating an entertainment news report video (via the aid of the youtube site)...so watch this space for more...

In the meantime...must get back to work..

Thanks for reading...

Movie Releases - This week i recommend..

Hello movie-goers! I've got a unique release for you this week..

Hard Candy. - starring Patrick Wilson, Ellen Page, Sandra Oh, Jennifer Holmes...and directed by David Slade.

Appearances can be deceptive as this story will show..

Smart...charming..teenage girl called Hayley has arranged to meet Jeff, a 30-something fashion photographer, from the internet. But Hayley's looking for a bit of risky fun...and soon she's mixing screwdrivers at Jeff's place and stripping for an impromptu photo shoot. Jeff thinks it's his lucky night...until he passes out. Hayley's got a lot on her mind...like getting Jeff to confess to his penchant for teenage girls...and to what he did to Donna Mauer, a girl who disappeared from Jeff's favourite coffee shop.
When Jeff comes around he finds that he is tied to a chair. If he doesn't cooperate..Hayley has a little surgical procedure in mind to help him along - a procedure she learned from the internet ironically. Simple really...all she needs is an ice-pack and a knife :)

This movie is seen as a battle of the sexes...at its most extreme!

Go see it...

No major blockbusters out this week...so that it from the movie camp for this week :)

Hello strangers!

I'm sorry it's been a long time since I last entered something on my blog, but a lot has gone on in my life...which I will now tell you all about.

I suffered a bit of a health scare a couple of weeks ago, and had a biopsy done on a lump found near my wisdom tooth. Thankfully the results showed that there was no cause for alarm...even though the doctors initially thought it might be - hence the biopsy. So that has been a major stress in my life recently, and have been feeling mentally drained because of it. Now that is out of the way...I can go on and live life to the full.

I've recently started a Diploma in PR - in order to try and become a qualified Publicist. It's what I've always wanted to do,,,so watch this space for more progress on that!

Work has been extremely busy recently...and I've decided to train for a role as a manager. I feel I need to progress in what I do...and therefore I believe I'm ready for the extra responsibility!

Painting...most of you will already know that I love to paint...and will look to do more bespoke painting work. Who knows....maybe turning into a business? The creative juices have recently started flowing again...and feeling extra confident putting brush to canvas! Hopefully soon I will be developing a website to house the business - full details will be revealed on here as and when.

Films - once again I apologise for not providing my delightful recommendations :) I shall be back to my normal self this week...and will mark the return of what I think will do well at the box office!

I'm volunteering to become a steward at this year's Europride London event on 1st July. More volunteers are needed so please please please...if you are attending this year, and fancy giving something back to the cause...go to http://www.pridelondon.org/getinvolved/volunteer.asp to complete a brief registration form. It will be a fun day out, and all eyes will be on London to see if this wonderful city can pull off a spectacular event!

Right...that's my penny's worth...time to get working on my future.. Catch you all again very soon!

Movie Releases - This week i recommend...

Happy end of week to you all!

Hope you've all had a good week? Apologies for not including my recommendations last week, but I didn't really feel passionate about last week's releases. However this week is a different matter, as one of this year's highly anticipated (and controversial) films is released.

The Da Vinci Code - Starring Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Sir Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina, Jürgen Prochnow, Paul Bettany, Jean Reno. Directed by Ron Howard.

Adapted from the hugely successful novel by Dan Brown, 'The Da Vinci Code' sets the scene with
the savage murder of Louvre curator Saunière. In comes Harvard symbology professor Robert Langdon (Hanks), who becomes embroiled in a plot involving a police cryptologist, an albino monk assassin and a 'jet-setting bishop', which could ultimately lead to the discovery of the Holy Grail.
The story also questions the foundations of an ancient religion, and leaves you to make up your own mind as to whether it's true or not.

Love mystery and intrigue? Have a good at watching this :)

And that ends my recommendations for the week. For those in Europe...don't forget that the Eurovision Song Contest is on this Saturday!

Catch you all again very soon!

Casino Royale (News: 10/05/06)

Apologies for not updating you nice readers out there..but here's a few items you might be interested in...

The Teaser trailer is out, and that can be viewed here!

As well as the teaser poster below:

And for all you car fans out there...the new Bond car has been unveiled. The Aston Martin DBS..

The specific details of this new DBS remain top secret, however Aston Martin Design Director, Marek Reichman, said:

“This car encapsulates a link between our elegant DB9 road car and the powerful DBR9 race car. It signals an evolutionary development of Aston Martin’s world renowned style and elegance.

“While hinting at our future design direction, the DBS also has very clear links with our heritage – it is instantly recognisable as an Aston Martin.”

Aston Martin Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ulrich Bez added:

“The DBS continues our proud and lengthy association with James Bond. The DBS is not of the understated elegance of a DB9, nor the youthful agility of the V8 Vantage. It is explosive power in a black tie and has its own unique character which will equal that of James Bond.”

Will the new Bond have as much sex appeal as his new car? We shall see...

An Update on ME!

Well...better late than never..but as I mentioned in my last post, here's an update as to what's been going on in my life so far..

I'll start off with my cool new flat mates...and my new room. It's a great place, situated in the East of London..near the multi-cultural area of Hackney. It's wonderful, and can get to work with no hassles at all. The flat mates...a gay couple..are absolutely great!! They both know how to party...and know how to have a quiet time at home.. It's very much like a shared environment...which I'm more used to, and didn't really get time to experience it at my last place. Local amenities...well...shops are great, and I'm only ever a 40 minute bus ride away from the centre of London.

My new place has had such a positive effect on me..and has given me confidence, and enthusiasm to take on a professional study course.

Since my all time career goal is to become a Publicist...I've started a Diploma course in Public Relations, and will then see where I go to from there. I'm not ruling out a degree, but ideally I'd like to kick start a career in PR...which I think is about time!

Work's going well...but the majority of my time has been taken up with studying really...

Had sometime to go to the theatre, and went to see Mission: Impossible III (which I hope you've all managed to see?)...and just been leading a quiet life..

Film wise..I've got some more Casino Royale gossip to report on...which is up next!

In the mean time....take care...and I'll try to keep you updated as regularly as possible.

:)

Movie Releases - This week i recommend..

Sorry that it's been ages since I last made an entry on here..

Will give you all a full update tomorrow...but it's that time again..and my one and only recommendation this week is...

Mission: Impossible III - Starring Tom Cruise, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames, Laurence Fishburne, Billy Crudup, Michelle Monaghan, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Keri Russell, Maggie Q...and directed by LOST series helmer J.J. Abrams.

Tom Cruise is back as Secret Agent 'Ethan Hunt'...but he's now retired from active duty and recently engaged to Julia (Monaghan). However he soon returns back to his old tricks when an IMF agent he trained is captured. However...crossing paths with evil arms dealer Owen Davian (Hoffman) ends up bringing innocent Julia into the equation, who believed her fiancé worked in transport. How wrong she was...

Said to be the best movie out of the trilogy so far...I highly recommend you go and see this! That is...if you're into action and explosions..and enjoy watching Tom Cruise getting the crap kicked out of him :)

Movie Releases - This week i recommend..

Hello all!

Many apologies for not having updated my blog in a while, but I've been very busy with work..and tired afterwards.

However I've mustered up enough energy to give you my recommendations for films out this week. Well...I say films....but I only really have one recommendation this week - and this might not suit those who avoid love stories like the plague.

The film I am talking about is:

Tristan and Isolde - starring Sophia Myles (Lady Penelope in the 'Thunderbirds' movie), James Franco (Spiderman) and Rufus Sewell.

The story is set after the fall of Rome, and in a time when the warlords of England are brutally kept in line by the forces of Irish King Donnchadh. One of these leaders, Lord Marke (Sewell) seeks to unite the English tribes to form one strong nation to rule itself. His greatest knight is Tristan (Franco), whom Marke raised since he was orphaned in an Irish attack that also took Marke's family. With Tristan by his side, Marke believes he can unify his people and rid England of Irish rule. But Tristan harbors a terrible secret...Wounded and left for dead after battle, he is nursed back to health by Isolde (Myles), a mysterious Irish beauty who hides him from her father, King Donnchadh's, forces and brings him back to life.

However, their passionate affair is cut short when Tristan must return to England, not knowing if he will see Isolde again. Still hoping to throw the English tribes back into chaos, King Donnchadh gives away his daughter as the prize in a tournament between all the champions of England. Tristan wins the princess' hand for Lord Marke, whose vision of a united England may finally be realised. Tristan is horrified to see that the woman he has won for his Lord, the woman whom Marke will marry, is his Irish savior Isolde. If that wasn't enough, Marke is a good and worthy future king, whose belief in Tristan has made the young knight who he is. Faced with their loyalty to King and country, Tristan and Isolde must suppress their emotions for the sake of peace and the future of England...but despite their efforts they are driven inexorably together, risking everything for one last moment in each other's arms.

Since I have a soft spot for love stories, this is one I simply must try and see. One for a sunday afternoon I think!

Well...that's me for my reviews for this week... Hope you all have a fantastic weekend...and I'll update this blog some more next week. Be safe folks!

Back on top!

Hello blogger readers!

Apologies for the lack of entries in my blog... As I said, I've had to get a load of crap sorted out! But finally...I can safely say that I'm all up-to-date now..and here's what happened..

Over 6 weeks ago an ex flat mate (now an ex because I've now moved house) broke the news to me that she was not planning to renew her part of the contract, to stay on at the flat. Now I was kind of hoping this would be the case..as I really wanted a change of scenery, plus the fact that the atmosphere in the place was a bit grim anyway. I wish I had taken pictures of the cell which I called a room for all of 2 years!! But...it did the trick for what I needed at the time...but I later found out what the flat mates were really like. Not that I'm a moaning sod or anything...I just have a dislike to people slamming their bedroom doors shut... I could almost put a tune to the door slamming, like a conductor would lead an orchestra. So anyway...back to the flat mate (Bianca). The other flat mate kind of reacted in a brash way to this new piece of news...and to be honest..who wouldn't. I mean..Bianca was entitled to do whatever she chose to do, but I guess it was more of a case of we got comfortable in the surroundings. So my search for a new place had commenced, and I didn't have much luck..

I can't recall all of the places that I saw...but there was always something wrong with it. The place was too small, the room wasn't clean, the kitchen was a 5* luxury resort for rats and pests...or the flat mates looked just plain dodgy! But my main gripe was going to see places without a bloody living room!!! I mean..I would have gone completely insane! I was due to move out on the first Sunday in April...and luckily...on Saturday 1st April...I got a text message telling me that I was chosen to live in a place that I saw the day before that! That room was absolutely fantastic!! It was spacious, airy, large bed, sofa, tv and minimal but nice storage area! There was a closet area in the hallway..where i could store and hang my clothes..and it was just right - space wise. When I saw the pictures I fell in love with it...because aside from the room being totally ideal, the rest of the flat was totally done up in a modern and bright style. It just felt like home, and although I was a tad unsure as to how safe the surrounding area was at night, my fears were quashed after returning home from a night out...and discovering that there was nothing to worry about at all.

So..Sunday 2nd April 2006...

I woke up to find that my laptop had totally gone kaput...and I thought my world had collapsed. I remember frantically flicking through the Yellow Pages and checking to see who could come out and fix it, but after being told a few times that my drive had completely gone...I decided that it would make more sense to get me a new one. After what seemed like 2 hours being in the PC World store..I ended up getting this one here.. It looks great and performs perfectly for what i need it for :)

So yes, now that I had my new laptop, I was all ready to move into the new place. I moved in with what little stuff I had...as a guy called Ian was kindly storing the rest of my belongings for me in his house. Speaking of which...I have to say a huge THANK YOU to you Ian.. You were a huge help and support throughout my housemoving stresses.. I won't forget this act of kindness! I have now found a storage place for all my possessions, and collapsed the last of the cardboard boxes from my move..

Now a over a week into my stay at my new home...I can safely say that I'm finally home at last. The couple who I live with (called Chris & Marco) are the most sweetest of couples that I have ever met. They've been together for over 3 years, and it renewed hope in me that relationships can indeed flourish...with a bit of effort and commitment!

And finally...WORK wise :) Well...I've been offered a contact where I work...and am now part of the fixtures and fittings! It's taken me a while...but I managed it. Believe me...this wasn't without its stresses either. I had to have a series of security checks, and references done on me that had to be vetted and approved. After being close to telling them to stick their contract where the sun didn't shine..they came back to me with a start date :D Just goes to show...patience is indeed a virtue!

So with the job, new home, new laptop and new life...things are definitely on the up. But yesterday wasn't without its surprises. An ex of mine from two years back got in touch..one who hurt me just when I needed someone the most.

To you...Richard...I know you're probably reading this and to be honest...I hope you do..

********************
Two years ago you tore out my heart and threw it out the window. I knew you weren't happy, and despite my attempts to try to rectify things, I always held out for hope that you would extend your patience with me a little while longer. But...instead...you felt the need to seek the comfort of another guy..and what made it worse was that I caught you both in the same bed! I thank you for doing what you did, because you helped me to see that the world was not a bed of roses. You also killed a huge part of me that day...but it was a part of me that was dying anyway! In the two years since we split, I had discovered what true love was..and what it was like to have felt love...even when the going got tough. I met a truly amazing man a few months after I left you and it was he who helped make me into the person I am today. Yes...you did help me to get out of a vicious circle that my life was back then, but when a part of me disappeared...you went with it.

I am happy things are starting to look up for you in your life, and I will say again that I don't hate you. I've already told you that I don't waste my energies on hate anymore. Although I am single now, I am happier than I have ever been...because even without a man to call a boyfriend at present...the fact that I loved is enough for me. Don't treat your next guy the way you treated me...I hope what you did to me has made you see that a true relationship requires a lot of effort...and then some. A relationship without effort...isn't one worth being in.

Take care Richard..!
********************

Well...that's it from me for the meantime folks.. As in true 'ED' fashion...I will report on any gossip relating to James Bond and other films..as and when I get it.

Back to the grindstone now...catch you all soon :)

Movie Releases - This week i recommend..

What a mad couple of weeks I have had!!

In pure 'me' fashion, I will let you all know what has diverted my attention from you happy readers! But in the meantime...my pickings movie-wise for this week. To be totally honest, there was only one movie that I thought was highly recommended..and that is..

The Squid and the Whale - starring Laura Linney, Jeff Daniels, Jesse Eisenberg, Owen Kline, Halley Feiffer, William Baldwin, Alexandra Daddario, Eli Gelb, Henry Glovinsky, Anna Paquin, Adam Rose and Benjamin Smolen.

Set in the mid-1980s in Brooklyn, New York..Bernard Berkman (Jeff Daniels) claims to have been a famous novelist, although is now reduced to teaching. Wife to Bernard, Joan Berkman (Laura Linney), discovers she too has a literary talent..which ends up breaking up the family. This leaves teenage sons Walt (Jesse Eisenberg) and Frank (Owen Kline) to choose which parent to side with. And if all of this wasn't enough, to add to the complication...Joan starts an affair with Frank's tennis coach, whilst Bernard starts sleeping with a student, who Walt is courting at the moment.

Jeff Daniels gives his best performance yet in this film! Prepare to have your heart broken and mended in the space of a couple of hours!

A very brief personal update!!

Hello happy readers!

Hope all is well in your lives? I am unfortunately going through a few challenging times in my life at the mo (of course i will fill you all in on the details soon). So really this is just a brief message to say 'Hi' and that I haven't forgotten about the articles that I am meant to be writing on here.

Bear with me...shouldn't be too long.

24 March, 2006

Movie Releases - This week I recommend..

Wahey...it's Friday again and yes...it's time for my latest pickings of movies out this week.

First up...my main recommendation of the week..

TransAmerica - Starring 'Desperate Housewife' Felicity Huffman & Kevin Zegers, TransAmerica tells the story of Bree...a perfectly adjusted conservative transsexual woman. Although named Stanley when she was born, Bree starts to take the step towards woman-hood..when she finds out that she is the parent of a long-lost 17 year-old son (Zegers). Travelling cross-country to New York to bail him out of jail, they both make the long journey back to Los Angeles, with Bree struggling to keep all her secrets hidden. A journey that will challenge and change both their lives and bring them closer to the truth of their connection. TransAmerica gives a whole new spin on the modern American family..and the performance that 'Emmy award winning' Felicity Huffman gave in this movie earnt her an Oscar nomination. It's a must for movie-buffs out there, and worth watching at least for the award-worthy performance!

And my other recommendations are..

Inside Man - Starring Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster, the delectable Clive Owen, Christopher Plummer, Willem Dafoe and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

For those who like heist plots, director Spike Lee and writer Russell Gewirtz bring you Inside Man. This movie tells the story of a tough cop, Detective Frazier (Denzel Washington), who matches wits with a clever bank robber, Dalton (Clive Owen), in a tense hostage drama. As the dangerous cat-and-mouse game unfolds, a wild card emerges: Madaline (Jodie Foster), a power broker with a hidden agenda, who injects even more instability into an already volatile situation. One for a Saturday night, and not to be missed if you're a Clive Owen or Jodie Foster fan. Denzel Washington gives a good performance as the dedicated cop!

And finally...

Hostel - Starring Jay Hernandez, Derek Richardson, Eythor Gudjonsson, Barbara Nedeljakova, Jana Kaderabkova, Jan Vlasák, Rick Hoffman and Jennifer Lim.

Quentin Tarantino presents Eli Roth's Hostel, the follow-up to the writer-director's hit debut, 2002's Cabin Fever. This movie is essentially a mixture of many of the most terrifying things about human nature and the world at large, taken from many impossible-but-true stories of human trafficking, international organized crime, and sex tourism. This movie is sure to shock even the most hardcore genre fans! Hostel tells the story of two adventurous American college buddies Paxton and Josh who backpack through Europe eager to make quintessentially hazy travel memories with new friend Oli, an Icelander they've met along the way. Both Paxton and Josh are lured by a fellow traveller, who describes a Hostel filled Eastern European women as desperate as they are gorgeous in an out-of-the-way Slovakian town. Eager as most virile men would be, they arrive at this hostel and soon pair off with exotic beauties Natalya and Svetlana....but may be all too easily! Distracted by the good time they're having, the two Americans quickly discover that they've both become trapped in an increasingly sinister situation. A great 'cover your eyes' type of movie, with gruesome scenes!

And there you hae my recommendations for this week. Stay tuned for more updates :)

Trinity's Article: Attending a Self-Defence course.

Right...as some of you may be aware I attended a Self-Defence course that spanned over the last two Saturdays. Safe to say that I do feel a lot more confident having done it...and learned new skills (should I need them). So here's what happened..

The 1st Day

After pretty much getting up at the crack of dawn to be at the venue for 9:45am..I was one of a few to get there for the start time. You begin to wonder what on earth are the people going to be like who attend these courses. I expected to find a load of male shrinking-violets, but to my disappointment...they were all..well..pretty normal - as far as the use of the word 'normal' goes. People from different walks of life...even those who you wouldn't dare try to attack. I then began to feel like the odd one out, when the facilitator went around the room to ask each of us why we were there. I almost felt like saying "Hi, i'm Edward...and i am a victim!"..but it wasn't like that at all. Practically 90% of the people there had been attacked/mugged at some point in their lives, all it would seem except me. I couldn't even begin to understand what those people went through when they were attacked...but thank heavens i haven't been...yet *touches wood*. So after our introductions...it was on with the tutoring..

This first day they were really drumming home the fact that avoidance is the best key...and even if you're a black belt at some form of martial arts..you must NOT under any circumstances advertise that to a bunch of attackers. The aim of this course was not to kill your attacker...but to imobilise them in some way, which would leave you with the option to escape. So the basic points they taught us were..

  1. AVOID
  2. Distraction

During the rest of the day, we would were taught a series of moves to gain control of an 'attack' type of situation. Most of the moves I'll be totally honest..I never thought i had it in me! They would tell us that no matter what size we are...you don't need beefy muscles to defend yourself. To be fair, the tutor was right when he said 'I haven't taught you anything that you don't already have the potential to do. I've just made you realise it'. He would ask us what should we be aware of when walking down a street....and it was amazing as to how many answers people came out with..all very sensible.

The 2nd Day

Now that we were aware of our surroundings...and conscious of the fact as to how to avoid certain situations...next would come the most important part! We were then give a series of senarios to do with weapons and being attacked in confined spaces. I was in awe of the tutor when he would demonstrate moves on how to knock out the knife from an attacker's hands...but he did cover his own back by saying that it was only move to use if all else fails. Aside from that, the tutor showed a range of moves from avoiding/deflecting a punch to how to fall 'safely' when pushed to the ground.

The Verdict?:

I started that course knowing what to do if I was ever mugged/attacked...however now I feel comfortable that I wouldn't play the victim. However I do think this course would benefit the victims of such instances, as I'm sure it would help them to become more assertive and confident. However if you get a spare moment in your life, I would highly recommend going to a Self-Defence class.. What have you got to lose? The pros out weigh the cons!

Movie Releases - This week I recommend..

My main recommendation this week? See if you can guess...

Yep...none other than...

V for Vendetta (starring Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Rea, John Hurt, Stephen Fry, Tim Pigott-Smith, Sinead Cusack) - Based on the acclaimed graphic novel "V For Vendetta" by Alan Moore ("The Watchmen," "From Hell") and illustrator David Lloyd, V for Vendetta is set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain. The film tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked vigilante (Hugo Weaving) known only as "V"! Someone who is charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, "V" ignites a revolution when he detonates two London landmarks.....and takes over the government-controlled airwaves, urging his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression! As Evey uncovers the truth about V's mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself -- and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plot to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption. As a Londoner I'm very much looking forward to this film. Bit of action and explosions...much missed recently.

For the arty/independent folk out there, the only film that stood out is..

Tsotsi - Winner of the 'Best Foreign Language Film of the Year' category at this year's Academy Awards..Tsotsi is set in a Johannesburg township of Soweto...where survival is the primary objective! The film traces six days in the life of a ruthless young gang leader who ends up caring for a baby accidentally kidnapped during a car-jacking. A gritty and moving portrait of an angry young man living in a state of extreme urban deprivation, and filled with the energy of "Kwaito music" - the modern beat of the ghetto that reflects his troubled state of mind. Compelled to confront his own brutal nature and face the consequences of his actions, Tsotsi puts a human face on both the victims and the perpetrators of violent crime and is ultimately a story of hope and a triumph of love over rage. So what does 'Tsotsi' mean? Well...bit of trivia for you! It literally means "thug" or "gangster" in the street language of South Africa's townships and ghettos...and "Kwaito" is South Africa's answer to American Hip Hop!

Bit of a difference between the two...but check them both out!

Casino Royale (News: 16/03/06)

Well...it's been absolutely manic on the James Bond front!

And yes...yet moooorre pics for you to look over.

First ones...courtesy of the Eva Green website...have a look here for pictures of her and Daniel Craig getting hot under the sea ;)

For some official publicity shots, have a peek below (Daniel Craig, Eva Green & Caterina Murino)...

Oh and apologies for not posting a cinema recommendations last week. Fear not...this week's will go on shortly.

Plus...on a more personal note...a bit of a catch up about ME!! Including:
  • How I got on in a 'Self-Defence' class;
  • a job offer at work;
  • and...a personal article on the subject of 'Cheating in relationships - why do people do it?'

That's all to come soon...

Stay peeled :)

Casino Royale (News: 10/03/2006)

Hello all :)

I'm back briefly for a quick update to the site. Those who are on OUT would have seen my snippets of the on-set clips and interview with producer Barbara Broccoli and Bond himself...Daniel Craig. But as promised..I will be including pics on here that i haven't placed on OUT ..

Have a peek at them...below. You can really see Daniel Craig moulding into the role now..

The seductive Vesper Lynd (Eva Green)

Bond girl & the villain's girl..Solonge (Caterina Murino)

Bond 'lady' and the big cheese to Bond.. 'M' (Dame Judi Dench)

'M' giving Bond a dressing down? (Daniel Craig & Dame Judi Dench)

What did you say to him, 'M'? (Daniel Craig)

The next lot are of Daniel Craig, clearly getting to grips with the role of James Bond.

Well...that all from Bond at the moment..apart from...***MAJOR SPOILER ALERT***

"Casino Royale" will feature the first ever black and white sequence in a James Bond film during the pre-titles sequence!!

"First of all, the traditional pre-credits action sequence will show how Bond got his 00-rating, showing the (required) two kills that he carries out. We’d heard that – but the news that it is in black and white is new, as is the news that the change to colour will come at a crucial point. That whole sequence, however, is backstory, aimed at giving the film a back to basics feel. There will be no Q and no gadgets, and since it’s the first book, Bond makes mistakes and develops into the character we all know."

More Bond gossip coming soon.....

Movie Releases - This week I recommend..

Well..it's that time again..the time for a bunch of new films to be unleashed on a cinema near you!

This week only few really stood out for me. The Matador (which i reviewed not so long ago)...and rest are as follows..

MirrorMask - live action mingled with animation!

"MirrorMask" focusses around Helena, a 15 year old girl in a family of circus entertainers. Helena often wishes she could just run off and join real life. However, after a fight with her parents about her future plans, her mother falls quite ill and Helena blames herself for this. On the eve of her mother's major surgery, she dreams that she is in a strange world with two opposing queens, bizarre creatures, and masked inhabitants. Fantasy begins to mirror real-life as all is not well in this new world - the white queen has fallen ill and can only be restored by the MirrorMask! It's now up to Helena to find it...but as her adventures continue, she begins to wonder whether it's a dream, or something far more sinister. The film has already been compared to a modern-day 'Labyrinth'...and is worth checking out. It's only got a limited release, so I hope you can catch it at your local cinema!

Syriana - nominated for 2 Oscars, (including Best Supporting Actor - George Clooney) writer/director Stephen Gaghan, (winner of the Best Screenplay Academy Award for "Traffic") brings "Syriana" to the foreground. It's political thriller that unfolds against the intrigue of the global oil industry. From the players brokering back-room deals in Washington to the men toiling in the oil fields of the Persian Gulf, the film's multiple storylines weave together to illuminate the human consequences of the fierce pursuit of wealth and power. As a career CIA operative (George Clooney) begins to uncover the disturbing truth about the work he has devoted his life to, an up-and-coming oil broker (Matt Damon) faces an unimaginable family tragedy and finds redemption in his partnership with an idealistic Gulf prince (Alexander Siddig). A corporate lawyer (Jeffrey Wright) faces a moral dilemma as he finesses the questionable merger of two powerful U.S. oil companies, while across the globe, a disenfranchised Pakistani teenager (Mazhar Munir) falls prey to the recruiting efforts of a charismatic cleric. Each plays their small part in the vast and complex system that powers the industry, unaware of the explosive impact their lives will have upon the world.

Enjoy people...and don't forget to catch The Matador!!

Casino Royale (News: 28/02/2006)

Right..

I've started a HUGE thread on the OUT website but I thought I'd bring some of it over here...and hopefully including some more exclusive stuff :)

As some die-hard Bond fans (who are reading this) may know, filming of this next James Bond installment is well underway. You may have also seen some of the on-set pics that have been posted on the net already. If not..check out some of them below:

Now, personally he's not my ideal choice for Bond! I'm wondering if he too is starting to think this...given the string of bad luck he's encountered since filming started. So what has happened to Daniel so far? Well:
  • He is now suffering from prickly heat, according to a British tabloid newspaper. A source on set had this to say about it: "It's driving him mad. He constantly wants to scratch. It's worst when he does a costume change. He's in agony! He's been moaning to his assistants that he's got prickly heat. He's extremely wary of being outside now but the nature of filming is such that he is out in the heat all day.";
  • he got sunburned whilst topping up his tan before filming in the Bahamas. Ooops!
  • he had two teeth knocked out whilst filming a fight scene in Prague;
  • he's admitted that he doesn't like guns and gets queasy on speedboats;
  • and to add insult to injury, Bond's traditional Aston Martin DB5 has even had to be converted to an automatic so the star can drive it!
So what can we expect from this actor? I feel he has a lot to prove before he is even accepted by the fans. Sure...his current fan-base may be singing his praises. He can talk the talk..but can he walk the way Bond can? I'll keep you folks posted on any further developments as and when i hear them!

The Matador - the review.

The Matador - Starring Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear and Hope Davis. Released 3rd March 2006.

Written and directed by Richard Shepard, this dark comedy centres around Julian Noble (played by the delectable Pierce Brosnan)who is a freelance hit man. Julian's very good at what he does, but is losing his taste for the business. In comes Danny (played by Greg Kinnear), a salesman whose marriage and finances are in trouble. One fateful night, in a bar of a Mexican hotel where they are both staying, these two men meet. Before long, they find themselves having an extremely unique 'Mexico City' experience, one that will change them both forever. What more could clash? Julian the hit man, Danny the ordinary American businessman find that while they have nothing in common whatsoever, they both need each other in ways they never knew they would.

Highlight of the film for me was the scene in the bull-ring, where Julian gave Danny an insight into what an hitman really does.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film, watching the experienced assassin gradually lose the plot...with Danny at his side.

Pierce was the main attraction of the movie, and if ever the old question of whether there was life after James Bond ever needed answering, he gave it crystally clear that there was. He had the perfect the mix of suaveness and showed moments of the character's 'self-doubt' well.

Trinity's verdict: 2 hours wonderfully spent - the best Pierce Brosnan comedy to date! A well deserved 5-star rating!

Movie Releases - This week I recommend..

Right - apologies for the long delay in posting on here folks. Been a bit manic recently...most of which I will place all the info on here :)

But..in the meantime, here are my recommendations for movies to watch at your cinemas this week:

It's Oscar Awards season and out in the UK this week is..

Capote - Nominated for 5 Academy Awards ® (including one for the Best Actor in a Leading Role category), this is the story of the celebrated author Truman Capote (Philip Seymour Hoffman) who decides to make his next project the shocking murders of the Clutter family in a small, conservative Kansas town.... where nothing usually happens. Then, researching his project, the author becomes fascinated with one of the killers, Perry Smith (Clifton Collins Jr.).

Lucky Number Slevin - is set in the world of New York gangsters and follows a case of mistaken identity, which lands Josh Hartnett's character (Slevin) in the middle of a murder being plotted by one of the city's most notorious crime bosses. Starring Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis, and Sir Ben Kinglsey, this film sets to be something of a satisfying view on for a Friday/Saturday night. Sorry...no film website for this release :(

Aside from a couple of 'Scary Movie' comedies out, i wouldn't really like to put my name to those recommendations...but by all means check out 'Date Movie' if you dare :)

Movie Releases - I recommend...

Right...back to business..

My recommendations this week are:

Final Destination 3 - set 6 years after the original story, this installment centres around a high school student who has a premonition of a fatal roller coaster accident - involving herself and everyone of her friends. When it comes true, Death comes after those who manage to escape the freak accident. A film that I am very much looking forward to seeing.

And the only other film that i definitely recommend is..

{proof} - Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by David Auburn, "Proof" follows a devoted daughter (Gwyneth Paltrow) who comes to terms with the death of her father (Anthony Hopkins) - a brilliant mathematician whose genius was crippled by mental instanity - and is forced to face her own long-harbored fears and emotions. Over time she adjusts to his death with the aid of one of her father's former mathematical students (Jake Gyllenhaal) who searches through her father's notebooks in the hope of discovering a bit his extraordinary mind. While coming to terms with the possibility that his genius, which she was inherited, may come at a painful price, her estranged sister (Hope Davis) arrives to help settle their father's affairs.
Having lost her real father a few years back, Paltrow is set to give a moving performance. Having lost my own father a few years back too...I am eager to see how this grief is translated on screen.

And there we have it...my recommendations this week!

Back again..

Really sorry for the long delays in posting. Been a bit of a manic week both at work, gym and social life.

Two topics I will bring up today..meetings with exes and my recommendations for movie releases in the UK this week.

So first things first...exes.

Why is it so easy to go back? Is it the familiar touch - the whole better the devil you know scenario? Or is it that we're just too lazy to find that someone new, where the unknown seems too daunting to even think about?

The other evening I had drinks with a guy I used to see a few years back, and it was safe to say that I had a great time..

We hadn't seen each other in months, and was great to catch up. Romantically...nothing much has happened in our lives...both guilty of the odd fling here and there, but nothing really serious or long term. The crunch came when at the end of the night...in a drunken-fuelled conversation, I asked him if he definitely had to go back home that night. Alas he did...but we both felt a strong attraction that night, but the practicality of working the next day, and getting back to my place to change/him back to his place to get changed in the early hours of the morning just didn't sway in my favour.
So what is this all about...the first interest I get in a while is from an ex of a few years back? We're compatible...both in and out of the bedroom. So what's the problem? Well...we both know each other all too well..and wouldn't want to ruin the peace that we have built up over the years..

It IS a shame though, because we seemed to click all over again...but then again maybe this is expected of past relationships?

So can this circle ever be broken? Or do we hunt down a new person to throw the hula-hoop over and claim them as our new fascination? One thing I know...it was good to feel appreciated again. Not only sexually (which by the way...nothing happened the other night....honest!) but mentally. It felt great to be appreciated for the whole package, rather than just the sex side..
I think we all need to feel that appreciation in our lives...and you lucky folk who are already attached...at least you can have in on demand most of the time. Although having said that...some say that the lust/love side of things becomes less pronounced after a few years. Or is that just with gay men?

I'll let you ponder on that one..

See the next post for my movie releases recommendations..

02 February, 2006

I'm back..

Sorry for the delay folks...Been up and down with doing stuff away from the ole blogger.

Anyway...I went on a Speed Dating event, and it was kind of refreshing.....better than what I thought it was going to be. Check out my mini review of my experience..

The event was held by: www.xfactordates.com

There were just over 30 guys there, and we got to date just over 25 of them. There were loads of good looking guys there, however a few didn't really have much going on between the ears. In the 3 mins (which most of the time felt like 1 min) you have to try and gage enough information about the individual and select an option on your scorecard of whether you think 'Yes', 'No' or 'Friend'..I'd say there was an even split of guys i thought were either in the no/friend category. Several i actually marked 'Yes'...but the snag is to wait and see what they marked me. I've logged all my results onto the website and wait for them to mark me accordingly. If they marked me as a 'Yes' ( and me vice versa) then i will get access to their contact details...and i can take it from there. All in all...after a wine-fuelled experience...i wasn't disappointed. Most were very chatty, and the dates shyed away from the traditional 'strict questions'...eg: What would you do in this instance...etc.

If most of the speed dating events are like this one..then i'd highly recommend them. The trick is not to expect anything from it...and relax.

So this weekend...anyone up to anything interesting?

This weekend i shall be in Brighton, going to a party event with a friend off the internet..who i should add...i have never met :S We get along fine...and he's asked me to be his guest for the gala, so it should be fun.

Work wise I've been the boss since Monday, as my boss has gone away for a week. Been going well...apart from a very difficult and lazy worker. He says he's done certain things...but after investigation we find he hasn't. What to do...I really don't know, but a group of us will be bringing it up with our manager discreetly. It's sounds horrible to go behind his back...but what other way is there to deal with people like this - despite asking if he's ok with work, and offered to answer any questions he may have?

Oh well....will see how that goes.

Entertainment, entertainment, enterainment. Folks...sorry I failed to provide you with my film recommendations for the coming week. This Friday though I will definitely be giving my choices for all you cinema fans out there :D

In the mean time I must dash..

:)

23 January, 2006

Monday Monday...so good to me?

What a weekend I just had!

It all started on Saturday morning, and I woke up following a very strange dream. Basically it was all about making my peace with an ex who I discovered had cheated on me.

The incident happened a while ago now, but what a strange dream to have :S Then as i made my way to the bathroom to make myself look vaguely human, I had a strange deja vu type feeling...like I had just split up with a partner who I loved greatly. I don't know where it came from...probably from the dream I had. The mind boggles!!

Anyway the Friday just gone, I discovered something horrific in the bathtub...and it wasn't a spider. On Thursday night, my considerate flat mate decided to have some friends around at around midnight. As I layed in bed I remember thinking that maybe her friends were just dropping her off home. But no...as little did I know the whole party would get worse.

They started playing 'tag' games...you know...the one where the 'IT' person goes around trying to catch someone so that captured becomes the new 'IT'..and so forth. Then...by 1am they started playing music so loud that I could hear the lyrics...by this time I was fuming with rage. Although I wasn't totally pushed over the edge towards insanity, I was so close to telling them to keep it down. But what would that of achieved? A slagging match at 2am in the morning? I just tried my best to get some sleep as I had to be up some 5 hours later..

So anyway...back to Friday eve, when I got back from work...eager to have a relaxing herbal bath..that's when I discovered the shocker. Feces...not much but enough...on the rim of the bath plughole. That was the limit...I then went downstairs, wrote a sickenly polite note to my flat mate for her to clean that bathtub herself - after all...I wasn't about to clean up someone else's shit...literally. I left the note by the bathtub and left her to it. That Friday night she had a hangover and surprisingly didn't see the note...her excuse was the first she knew of it was on Saturday morning....when she woke to go and get washed.

So...on Saturday morning...she cleaned it...and she apologised for the 'mess', and was deeply sorry for all the noise caused. Well...as much as I appreciated her attempt at an apology, I didn't quite accept the last part. There is no excuse as to lacking consideration towards your fellow housemates - it's all about manners.

So I decided to go to the gym on Saturday morning for a bit of a work out...and of course...the very important showers :) I felt revived and fresh...and after my salmon and stir-fried veg I was more than content with what ever the day could throw at me.

Saturday night I attended a birthday meal at Pizza Express in the City of London. It was really nice, and I got to do what I love doing most of all...meeting new people. This very attractive man sitting opposite me at the table was constantly topping up my wine glass, which made me a bit tipsy by the time I was due to hit the next party on my list of things to do. So the Pizza Express gang went off to watch 'Breakfast On Pluto'..while i headed to my best mate's leaving doo.

Bit of background on him...

He's South African, I first met him when working in this seedy bar in Kings Cross. We connected and got on very well...so the work-friendship developed into a friendship outside. He's been seeing this guy who he met in a nightclub called 'Crash' (a club in Vauxhall, London), but unfortunately my mate's Visa is about to expire. And since he's only been with his partner for 1.5 years, he doesn't quite qualify for being able to stay in the UK any longer. So...his plan is to go and come back in a few months...when he will begin his college course on Ceramics.

So yes, I went to his party and couldn't help but feel a little strange there. It was filled with COUPLES!!! I've nothing against couples......in small doses, so please excuse my singleton view of them :S

My other best mate came and met me (with his partner) and I felt more at ease. It wasn't that i didn't like Sean's (my S.African mate) party...it was just that I found a few of the attendees a bit too snobby. I felt like I was in the company of major money makers...who looked like they had blown their money of striving to make themselves look younger. As they spoke to me, I couldn't help but try to spot where they had their Botox treatment...but each to their own. I was just a little miffed at the fact that I was out of my depth, in a room who dissed council residents and others who didn't earn over a certain salary.
As soon as my other best mate left to go home, I decided to make a move too.. as I needed my beauty sleep for my journey to Cambridge on Sunday morning - as i couldn't afford the collagen/botox treatments that 'some' clearly could afford.

So...Cambridge...

It was my gorgeous little nephew's birthday celebration....and I must admit some of his actions shocked me. Notably, when his candle-lit birthday cake was being brought towards him by his mother...he began screaming...as if he didn't want anyone to see him blow his candle out. So we paused for a moment until he was ready...then the next tantrum came.

As you'd expect, we all cheered when he blew the candle out....and he screamed and cried - as if he didn't want all the cheering/encouragement. I know children are children....but most would be happy to have been the centre of attention...at least I'm sure I did when I was younger.
So...after the celebrations it was time for me to make my way home...back to the big smoke.

Aside from resting and watching a BBC adaptation of 'Elizabeth I', I just headed to bed...in view of the working day that lay ahead.

So...is Monday being good to me? It's just over half way through the afternoon...and I'm not sure yet. I think I'm due to meet my mate Sean tonight...though to be honest I've been slacking in the gym department, so really want to get back on track with that.

I'm hopnig you had had an eventful weekend? Hopefully a tad better than mine :)
