The Ring 3 - in 3-D?

Imagine... Watching a scene like this in 3-D would scare me senseless, and Heat Vision reports that this could soon be a reality.

The third installment in the franchise, based on the Japanese horror movies, is being called "Ring 3D." David Loucka, who wrote the now-shooting thriller Dream House for Morgan Creek, has been hired to pen the script. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are in negotiations to return as producers, and Vertigo and Benderspink are executive producing.

As yet, no director is on board.

The plot of the original movie centered on a young journalist investigating a mysterious videotape that seemed to cause the death of anyone within a week of viewing it.

The new movie is being fashioned as more teen-centric than the first, with the intention to reinvent the franchise (although full details are still being kept under wraps. One potential scenario involves teens finding a VHS player that still works.

Just imagine how many people Samara could wreak vengeance on if the curse applied to the same video hosted on YouTube. That would be a great nod to the current trend of sharing video clips.

Batman 3 - Official Announcement Expected In July!

Batman-on-Film reports that an official announcement on the new (and what could possibly be Chris Nolan's last) Batman movie is due to take place in July 2010!

Jett mentions that it will probably take place around the time of Comic Con - in the latter part of the month. It's a good point to note that The Dark Knight was officially announced at Comic Con back in 2006, where details were confirmed on the title of the film, the casting of Heath Ledger as The Joker, that director Chris Nolan was back on board, and news that the BATMAN BEGINS sequel would be a Summer 2008 release.

Could something similar happen this time? Will months and months of rumours finally be silenced or confirmed? All wil be revealed in a couple of months time!

Anti-Piracy law approved in the UK!

Variety reports that a "watered-down" version of the U.K.'s controversial Digital Economy Bill has just been passed by MPs in a last-gasp measure of the existing British parliament, just before the general election campaigns gain momentum.

The new laws will give regulator Ofcom the power to block websites suspected of piracy and the ability to impose fines of up to £250,000 on Internet service providers that fail to act against persistent offenders.

ISPs will be allowed to suspend offenders' accounts while copyright holders will be able to access the names and addresses of serious piracy offenders and take action against them.

Media Secretary Ben Bradshaw said the legislation struck the correct balance between giving creative artists more protection and providing consumers with a "fair deal"

He added:

"Hundreds of millions of pounds every year is currently haemorrhaging from our creative industries because of unlawful file-sharing.

"This is not a harmless or victimless activity. It deprives our musicians, writers and filmmakers and other artists of their livelihoods and if we don't do something about it, it will pose a serious threat to our creative sectors and Britain's role in them."

Google, which has repeatedly opposed the plans to block websites, criticised the decision by saying that the bill had "escaped proper scrutiny".

 A spokesman said:

"We absolutely believe in the importance of copyright, but blocking through injunction creates a high risk that legal content gets mistakenly blocked, or that people abuse the system."

Emily Blunt to sharpen her claws for Batman?

There seems to be various Catwoman casting rumours circulating the net over the past year or so, and this latest one made my ears stand to attention.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Emily Blunt was offered the lead in the new Captain America movie, but she turned them down flat. Could it be for financial reasons? Maybe not..

Batman-on-Film had been tipped that the real reason she turned down the role was because she was in line for the most famous femme fatale role ever...Catwoman!

It isn't clear yet whether the feline fighter will be included in the new Christopher Nolan flick, but it could well be a very logical casting choice if this rumour does turn out to be true.
