The Pretenders star Chrissie Hynde has ruled out taking her latest rock tour around the U.K. - insisting British music fans only care about "disco and talent contests".

Hynde has embarked on an extensive trek of the U.S. to promote her band JP, Chrissie and The Fairground Boys' latest album, Fidelity! But the American-born singer, who moved to London when she was just 22, admits she has no plans to perform in her adopted home country.

Hynde says:

"I've loved living here for 40 years. But the music scene has changed radically. No one's selling records anymore. Now it's all Pop Idol and disco bulls**t and talent contests; people without much talent being judged by people without much taste. So we thought, 'Let's go to the States and see if there's any interest there.' You can tour endlessly in the States."

But Hynde admits playing to small venues in the U.S. won't be a lucrative choice, adding:

"In some places we're playing to a hundred people a night. I'm sharing a room with the wardrobe girl and we're doubling up in Comfort Inns, but I can't wait. I'm looking forward."

Come back Chrissie!
