Douglas Begins "Knock-out" Chemo Treatment.
'Wall Street' star Michael Douglas is struggling with nausea following his first week of chemotherapy in his battle with throat cancer - the treatment "knocks" the actor out "really hard".
Doctors discovered a tumour in the 65-year-old's throat last month (after they previously suggested that there was nothing wrong with him) and immediately ordered him to undergo intense therapy to treat the disease.
He has now started treatment and the actor opened up about his experiences during an appearance on last night's The Late Show with David Letterman - his first TV interview since the diagnosis.
Douglas said:
"I just finished my first week of radiation and chemo. It's an eight week struggle. I've started the regiment already.
"The things that change... the chemotherapy... in terms of dealing with the nausea. It knocks you out really hard."
It's difficult to imagine what it must feel like to have such a vigorous treatment, with no guarantee that it would completely wipe out the cancer altogether. But what choice has he got?
I have heard reports that he expects to make a full recovery after the treatment, but it goes without saying that the journey to the end of the tunnel won't be a pleasant one.
