Cancer-stricken Michael Douglas has returned to work for the first time since undergoing a series of chemotherapy sessions earlier this year.

The actor has been battling throat cancer since the summer and completed the draining treatment in back in October. Douglas has declared he's determined to beat the illness, and he showed signs of his recovery by filming a clip for an online video feature by The New York Times.

The Wall Street star appears in a brooding black and white one-minute clip in which he is seen sat in a leather armchair. James Franco and Matt Damon have also appeared in the 14 Actors series, which sees stars portray "classic screen types".

His representative tells the publication:

"He's doing better. He keeps improving, but it's a slow process."

Douglas is due to make a full return to acting next year, when he begins shooting his portrayal of flamboyant pianist Liberace.
